Leeds casino reopens after Gambling Commission licence suspension
The regulator says the Leeds Victoria Gate Casino has made “widespread changes” to leadership and compliance supervision.
UK.- Victoria Gate Casino has reopened following a period of closure since the Gambling Commission suspended the Leeds casino’s licence at the end of last month. The British gambling regulator said it had decided to lift the licence suspension after the operator carried out “widespread changes” to leadership and compliance supervision.
The Gambling Commission had announced the enforcement action amid a probe into the casino’s anti-money laundering (AML) measures. It cited a “significant and a serious threat to the licensing objectives, in particular keeping crime out of gambling”.
However, the regulator says the operator has collaborated closely with its investigation and has taken measures to improve its social responsibility and AML controls.
While the review remains in progress, the Gambling Commission said the operator has improved its safer gambling policies while introducing more efficient AML training for employees. The Leeds casino operator has also agreed to undergo an independent audit within six weeks.
“During the course of the ongoing review, the Commission will continue to monitor the operator closely to ensure full and sustained compliance with the Licensing requirements is achieved,” the Gambling Commission said in a statement.
The suspension was one of three imposed by the Gambling Commission in the past month. The regulator has also suspended Deadheat Racing’s General Betting Standard licences amid suspected social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings, while it suspended Spribe’s software licence over B2B hosting activity not covered under the scope of the licence.
