Las Vegas: at least 123 visitors test positive

Authorities have revealed data showing a rise in numbers of Covid-19 cases among visitors to Nevada since casinos reopened.

US.- At least 123 visitors to Nevada have tested positive for Covid-19 since the reopening of casinos in Las Vegas on June 4.

According to state health data, the visitors in question were all diagnosed while visiting Nevada or shortly after returning home.

According to the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, 16 visitors tested positive in the week casinos reopened.

Between June 22 and June 28, 31 visitors to Nevada tested positive: eight from Arizona, 13 from California, two each from Florida, Texas and Utah, and one person each from Colorado, Illinois, Tennessee and Brazil.

Between the last few days of June and the weekend of US Independence Day on July 4, 24 visitors tested positive. Half were from California.

Since early June, Californians have accounted for 46 per cent of visitors to Nevada who tested positive for the virus while in the state or shortly after returning home. Arizonans accounted for 17 per cent, followed by Texans (10 per cent) and residents of Utah (6 per cent).

The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services reported the state’s death toll from Covid-19 at 626 on July 15.

Last week, authorities re-imposed some restrictions due to a rise in cases. Bars and restaurants inside casinos are closed. It is unclear if authorities would consider a new shut down of casinos.
