Kentucky’s gubernatorial candidate supports casinos
One of the state’s candidates has voiced his support of casino gambling in Kentucky.
US.- Andy Beshear, current Attorney General of Kentucky, announced his gubernatorial candidacy on Monday, and said that he would support the legalisation of casino gambling in the state as a way to collect more revenue to increase pension funds for state employees.
Beshear, the son of the former governor Steve Beshear, is basing his platform on a policy brought in by his father, who introduced a legislation in 2008 that called for a constitutional amendment allowing for up to 12 casinos in the state. While the legislative piece passed several hurdles, it never survived legislative votes.
“People are ready,” said the candidate. “They see where US$1.2 billion goes to Indiana and Pennsylvania and other bordering states that they can use for their pension system. It’s time to keep those dollars at home.”
