Kentucky governor Andy Beshear has revealed that the state’s newly regulated sports betting market has generated nearly $250m.

US.- Andy Beshear, the governor of Kentucky, has announced that almost $250m has been wagered in Kentucky since sports betting went live in the state last month. Kentucky’s sports betting market opened in two parts. Retail sports betting opened on September 7, followed by online sports betting on September 28.

Retail sports wagering brought in $15.7m while $232.3m was wagered through mobile devices. Since the market opening, 500,000 accounts have been created.

Beshear wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “It took many years and a lot of hard work to get here, but we got it done!” He added: “And now those dollars are staying in our commonwealth to make this a better place to call home for all our families.”

Beshear signed sports betting legislation in April, and the law came into effect July 1. The legislation allows retail and online betting on professional and college sports, international sports, e-sports and video game events.
