US.- A man who offered illegal sports betting via websites located in Costa Rica has been sentenced to 15 months in prison.
According to The Daily News, Douglas Booth, 50, reached a plea agreement at the US District Court in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on charges that include failing to file tax returns and money laundering.
The court heard that Booth made almost US$2.3 million from his gambling operation, which he then laundered through banks, real estate property purchases and loan payments.
Booth’s attorney, Harris Pepper, has also been sentenced. He admitted taking part in the money laundering conspiracy and received about US$200,000 from Booth in cash and relief from gambling debts.
Pepper was fined and put on probation for five years at his sentencing earlier this month.
