Italian gambling licensees advised to declare principal domains
All other domain names, mirror sites or skins linked to the principal site must be deactivated.
Italy.- Successful applicants in Italy’s new tender for online gambling licences have been told to declare the principal domain for their B2C activities by the end of the month. Signed by Antonio Giuliani, the notification from the Remote Gaming and Betting Office at the customs and monopolies agency, Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli (ADM), reminds operators that licensees may only operate under one website under the new regime.
Operators must formally communicate their chosen URL even if it is already online. By November 13, all other domain names, mirror sites or skins linked to the principal site must be deactivated and removed from DNS records, in collaboration with internet service providers (ISPs).
The rule is part of the new Italian online gambling licensing framework and is intended to end the use of multiple domains and make it easier to track player activity. The only exception will be for operators that are part of temporary business consortiums. These will be allowed temporary redirects until the end of the year to provide continuity for existing player accounts during the transition phase.
The ADM warned that failure to meet the new provisions could lead to suspensions or even licence revocation in the event of repeated violations.
The regulator has issued new €7m nine-year licences to 46 operators covering 52 brands under the licence tender. It said that Lotto, Scratch & Win and SuperEnalotto concessionaires will receive authorisations by November 7 to allow them to collect stakes and manage games on behalf of new online licence holders.
