Ireland’s National Lottery reports €7.4 million profit

Premier Lotteries Ireland, the National Lottery’s operator made an operating profit of €7.4 million against a background of declining sales in 2015.

Ireland.- Premier Lotteries Ireland (PLI), the National Lottery’s operator has reported an operating profit of €7.4 million against a background of declining sales in 2015, the company has reported. PLI was awarded a twenty year license to operate the National Lottery by the Irish Government back in November 2014, so this would be its first full year running the organisation.

Premier Lotteries Ireland ltd. paid €405 million for the operating license in 2014. The firm declared a decline in its sales of 2.5 percent to €670.4 million. However, due to various expenses and taxations, PLI ended up seeing a profit of €7.4 million.

According to PLI report, more than 1.4 million people played National Lottery games in 2015, approximately 42 percent of the adult population. An amount of €381m in prize money was paid out, whils t€188m was allocated for good causes.

Premier Lotteries Ireland’s report also revealed that even though sales were down, online play saw an explosion in popularity, jumping from 140,000 to more than 225,000.
