Iowa’s sports betting handle was $172.6m in April.

US.- Iowa’s sports betting handle was $172.6m in April, down 2.7 per cent year-on-year and down 25.8 per cent from the $232.6m wagered in March of this year. Of the total, $157.5m was wagered online, and the remaining $15.1m with retail sportsbooks.

Revenue was $14.1m, up 13.7 per cent from the same period in April 2022 and 29.2 per cent less than the $19.9m generated in March. Online betting generated $13.4m and retail $675,249.

Diamond Jo in Dubuque and its FanDuel sportsbook registered $5m in revenue from $42.6m in bets. Wild Rose in Jefferson and DraftKings recorded $2.2m from a $26.7m handle, while sister property Wild Rose Clinton, also partnered with DraftKings, registered revenue of $1.9m and $19.1m in bets.

Sports betting tax amounted to $908,605, while players won $158.5m.

Casino Queen in Iowa gets final approval to move to land

Queen Casino and Entertainment has announced that Casino Queen Marquette, one of Iowa’s riverboats casinos, has received approval from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to move from the Mississippi River to land. The commission approved the request on Thursday, January 26.

Terry Downey, president and CEO of The Queen Casino & Entertainment, said: “We’re pleased with the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s decision to approve Casino Queen Marquette’s landside move.”
