Indiana city pushes for new casino licence

The Hammond City Council passed a resolution to urge the Gaming Commission to issue a new gaming licence for the town.

US.- Hammond City Council is sure a new gaming venue would help the authorities and passed a resolution to urge the authorities to transfer a licence to the city. The local government urged the gaming regulator to give them a second gaming licence to develop a gaming venue in the area.

Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. said: “If we allow them to start changing casinos around and relocating casinos, they could take away our competitive advantage. Why are we allowing them to change the rules without kicking and screaming?”

His comments arise after Gary’s announced plans to relocate its casino, to which the Hammond mayor responded he’s all for it but not before his town gets its own licence first. He explained Hammond is the state’s “biggest gaming city,” in terms of population and has the largest grossing casino in the state: Horseshoe Casino.

The resolution calls for the state regulator to give Hammond one of the two licences the Gary’s Majestic Star operates on since they were issued in 1994. Several different towns are pushing for the licence but McDermott said: “Let’s be the first one out.”
