Illinois regulator seeks public comment on sports betting
The Illinois gambling regulator has announced that it is seeking public comment on the state Sports Wagering Act.
US.- The Illinois Gaming Board has opened a process in which residents will be able to provide input on the regulations that will be included in the Illinois Sports Wagering Act. The process will be open for 30 days.
The gambling regulator from Illinois said that it will receive input from stakeholders, the public and the sports betting industry. The public comment period will run through September 27.
Illinois Gaming Board Administrator Marcus Fruchter said that the public comment period is an important step in a process to ethically and expeditiously establish a regulatory framework to allow sports betting in the state.
“In order to make the process of rule creation as transparent and independent as possible, it is important that the public and various stakeholders have an equal opportunity to submit comments about the Sports Wagering Act contained in P.A 101-0031,” said Fruchter.
The legalisation of sports betting in Illinois
The sports betting segment in Illinois obtained the approval along with more casinos as part of a massive gambling expansion. The bill authorises six new casinos in downtown Chicago, Williamson County, Rockford, Waukegan, Danville and South Suburbs. Along with racetracks and sports venues with more than 17,000 seats they will be eligible to buy sports betting licences.
When announcing that he signed the bill, Pritzker said that this will be beneficial for Illinois. “This isn’t just an infrastructure plan. It’s a jobs plan, for job creation across our state, which we haven’t seen in a long time. This really is about increasing economic growth in this state, giving people more economic opportunity.”
