House to authorise East Windsor casino
The state Senate passed the bill that would allow MMCT to construct a tribal casino in Connecticut.
US.- House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz, D-Berlin, confirmed during an interview with CT Mirror a deal that was described by several sources involved in the negotiations that the MMCT Venture will obtain the permission to build a casino in East Windsor.
The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation are now waiting for the full authorisation, and ultimately, the Governor Dannel P. Malloy’s signature. As commented by the Speaker, this bill is a new version of the original proposal that would’ve allowed slot machines in off-track betting facilities in New Haven, Waterbury and Bridgeport. For example, Senator Marilyn Moore, D-Bridgeport, said that the installation of OTB parlor in her city wouldn’t have helped the economic side of the state, it would’ve only caused damage.
As reported by the news outlet, representatives of both MMCT and MGM gathered outside the House majority office to make their final inputs. Last month, the latter responded to Connecticut’s plan of approving the tribal casino to compete with the upcoming MGM Springfield gaming center in Massachusetts. The casino company released a letter signed by US Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., to promote its Springfield venue and avoid the potential construction of neighbour casino in East Windsor.
MMCT would be in charge of gaming operations of the casino in East Windsor. The gambling facility project would generate around 1200 job positions and would better position the state economic situation against the US$1 billion MGM Springfield casino.
