Hollywood Casino Toledo is in the middle of an expansion which will include a new sportsbook bar.

US.- After three years of debate, last December Governor Mike DeWine signed legislation to allow sports betting in the state following approval of House Bill 29 by the House and Senate.

Even though the state will start issuing licences on April 1, 2022 with a target to be ready for launch on January 1, 2023, Hollywood Casino Toledo is already getting ready to offer sports wagering.

Hollywood Casino Toledo General Manager Brad Hirsch said to Wtol 11 that they’re in the middle of an expansion which will include a new area called “The Barstool Sportsbook”.

That space will be specifically designed to host sports wagering when the casino is legally permitted to do so.

“We’ve got our current casino expansion going on right now and that’ll be completed in February which is our new outdoor gaming terrace and this will be the next phase we go into by building a new sportsbook,” Hirsch said.

Under the state’s new law, casinos, stadiums, bars and restaurants will have the ability to apply for gambling licenses with the industry being regulated by the Ohio Casino Control Commission.

By the end of 2021, Ohio started joining the 30 other US states and Washington DC that have been legalising sports betting since 2018.

Players will be allowed to place sports bets online, at casinos, racinos and at betting kiosks in bars, restaurants and professional sports facilities.
