Hollywood Casino to start sports betting in West Virginia
The Charles Town venue is the first to be cleared to take sports wagers and is expected to begin operating on September 1st.
US.- The sports betting segment is already up and running in the US as states like New Jersey have begun operating after the Supreme Court struck the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) down. West Virginia is set to have its first venue taking sports wagers soon as the Hollywood Casino expects to do so on September 1st.
The Charles Town venue was the first casino licensed to offer sports betting in the state and is cleared to operate, the West Virginia Lottery Commission announced. Legal counsel Danielle Boyd said that the casino will install the necessary software and train employees before being ready to begin operating the sportsbook.
In addition, Ms Boyd said there are other casinos that will be ready to launch during mid-September and in the weeks to follow. She also projected the segment to bring people to the state to place wagers at casinos or other venues, which will boost the tourism segment in West Virginia.
