Honolulu approves bills against illegal gambling

Bills 11, 12 and 13 are intended to crack down on illegal gaming rooms on Oahu.

US.- The city of Honolulu in Hawaii has approved bills 11, 12 and 13, in a bid to crack down on illegal gaming rooms on Oahu. The bills grant the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) and city agencies extended powers to shut illegal game rooms.

Bill 11 is introduces fines for our gambling devices while Bill 12 is intened to strengthen the relationship between police and the Director of Public Prosecutions and bill 13 addresses landlords. Honolulu prosecutor Steve Alm said illegal game rooms were an island-wide problem and that more than 60 operations have been shut down in the past year.

Efforts to legalise sports betting in Hawaii stalled after the joint House and Senate conference committee failed to reach an agreement on a unified version of HB 1308. The House of Representatives refused to accept Senate amendments, meaning the state won’t see legal wagering until at least 2026.
