Gulfport Harbor asks for land approval delay
The developers of an upcoming casino asked the city to push the approvals until March.
US.- Gulfport Gaming Development had time until January 31 to display its construction plans, but the company asked the city to extend the deadline until March. The Mississippi casino will use five harbor lots.
The Mississippi Gaming Commission approved the site back in August 2016, and the US$140 million casino experienced financial concerns ever since. The Gulfport Planning Commission was supposed do discuss the subject, but it was later removed from the agenda. Mississippi is currently considering and analysing other gaming site approvals: the gaming commission will receive petitions in February from Jacobs Entertainment Diamondhead and RW Development.
The Mayor Tommy Schafer, said that the need the approval before taking further steps. Without it, the Diamondhead City Council should not even consider a project. “The city of Diamondhead should enjoy the same economic opportunities as other cities that have chosen to provide space for casinos,” he added.
