Greece reports online gambling revenues

According to new reports, the online gambling market in the country has reached the billion euros mark.

Greece.- Greece’s local gambling regulator (EEEP) has reported the financial results of the gambling industry from 2017, which show that online gambling and betting generated approximately €5.3 billion in revenues.

According to the information released by EEEP, gross gaming revenue totalled €180 million, while the local market – both casinos and online – is estimated to be worth €11 billion in 2017. Local operators reported €2 billion in gross gaming revenue after winnings, local media ekathimerini.com reported.

Earlier this year, the country also reported that the number of visitors decreased 2.3 per cent from January to June. The only casinos that increased the number of visitors are the ones in Thessaloniki, Parnitha in Athens and Corfu.

The country is expecting to host a new casino in Elliniko, and the Hellenic Gaming Commission has already revealed its intentions to meet five major casino companies to discuss the development of the project. The HGC will begin meeting interested parties to participate in the consultation over the next weeks. Among them are US companies Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE), Caesars Entertainment, Las Vegas Sands, Hard Rock Entertainment and China’s Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd.
