Georgia Senate committee recommends legalising mobile sports betting

The proposal was added just before the publication of the committee’s report.

US.- The Georgia Senate Study Committee on Making Georgia the No. 1 State for Tourism has made a recommendation to legalise mobile sports betting in the state. The committee, which is chaired by Sen. Drew Echols, did not discuss the recommendation, which was added at the last minute.

The committee’s report makes recommendations to strengthen Georgia as a competitive tourism destination. During a meeting, it was noted that North Carolina sports betting revenues are used to attract major events and that Georgia could boost tourism in a similar way.

The study says: “Members of the committee agree that Georgia’s tourism industry requires dedicated and substantially increased funding. When tourists come to Georgia for specific events, the goal should be to keep them in Georgia and encourage them to see beyond than their specific destination. The committee heard extensive, valuable testimony from across the state.”

Earlier this year, the Georgia House completed its session with no vote on sports betting, ending chances of legalisation until at least 2026. HB 686 and HR 450 had been approved by the Rules Committee for possible floor votes but neither was called in the final session.
