Georgia pushes for legalised gambling

In order to generate major revenue for the state, a committee in the Georgia State Representatives is pushing to legalise gambling.

US.- Georgia could soon legalise gambling in order to generate extra dollars for state coffers. The segment seems to be closer than ever thanks to a push in the House of Representatives.

The Lower House formed a new Economic Development Committee to assess economic issues in local communities. Gambling seems to be the top solution to solve financial problems in Georgia. It would include casinos, horse racing and sports betting to take place in the state.

“We have the honour to not only grow the economy in this community,” said Sandra Roose, with the Valdosta-Lowndes County Conference Center and Tourism Authority. “But also improve the quality of life through business revenues and the local taxes that we drive. That, in turn, gets spent in our community and benefits our citizens.”

Rep. Allen Powell assessed the push to legalise gambling in Georgia and where money should go.

“To me, healthcare would be the ideal place because it benefits every Georgian and every citizen,” Powell said. “Across party, across gender, across race, across the economic status. If that money, if the people of Georgia legalize it, then the revenues could go to healthcare.”
