Gambling revenue up in New Mexico

Lottery ticket sales increased almost six per cent in the 2018 fiscal year ending June 30th.

US.- According to figures released on Thursday by the New Mexico Gaming Control Board, the state’s five racetracks totalled net win of US$230 million from their slot machines in the fiscal year 2018, ending June 30th. Lottery ticket sales also increased by six per cent but are still lower than the average of the past 15 years.

New Mexico Lottery CEO David Barden said that the rise during the last fiscal year was driven by increases in ticket sales for numbers games like Mega Millions and Powerball, while sales of tickets from scratch and instant games remained virtually flat. The sales totaled US$134 million in fiscal 2017/2018, which is up from the US$126.1 million registered the previous year.

Racetracks’ net win was up from the US$226.4 million posted in 2017, but down from 2015’s record of US$265.3 million. Operators paid almost US$60 million in gaming tax, approximately US$1 million more than the previous year.
