Dutch casinos warned to enforce Covid-19 measures
Gambling trade association VAN Kansspelen has advised members to keep a close eye on protocols as health services receive the power to close venues.
The Netherlands.- The gambling trade association VAN Kansspelen has advised members to ensure customers follow Covid-19 measures as the government grants municipal health services (GGD) powers to close leisure establishments if Coronavirus cases are traced to the venue.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Health Minister Hugo De Jonge announced the measure due to concerns about cases rising again. Cases increased by 55 per cent in the Netherlands last week.
Restaurants and bars, including those at state casino monopoly Holland Casino’s properties, will now be open for reservations only.
VAN Kansspelen lobbied the government to get an earlier than planned reopening date for casinos. It has now advised members to ensure controls are observed to avoid having to close again.
It said: “The number of infections is increasing and people are not adhering to the basic rules as closely, such as observing the 1.5m and hygiene measures. The national government is taking measures to prevent further spread of the virus.
“As a sector, it is important to contribute to the prevention of infections. We therefore call on you to adhere to all protocols and the rules. Also inform your guests of this if they do not comply with this.”
Casinos and gaming arcades in the Netherlands reopened on July 1 after closing in mid-March. A previous opening date set for September 1 was brought forward following lobbying from VAN Kansspelen.
