Delhi court favours online gambling

A division bench of the Delhi High court refused to block online gambling through an interim order and called to “let it go on”.

India.- Online gambling in Delhi will remain active for now as a division bench of the High Court favoured it. They declined to issue an order for an interim block of online gambling, filed by social activist Avinash Mehrotra.

“No interim relief. Let it go on,” High Court stated on online gambling. Advocates Prashant Kumar, Siddhartha Iyer, Saurabh Suman Sinha, Awantika Manohar and M/s AP&J Chambers unsuccessfully pressed for the block.

Still, the court issued notice to the centre and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Mehrotra’s filing had alleged that illegal gambling portals are soliciting bets from India in violation of foreign exchange laws, tax laws and existing gambling legislation, Glaws reported.

Senior counsel Sandeep Sethi and law firm Nishith Desai Associates and Gaggar & Partners’ managing partner Vaibhav Gaggar, advocated for gambling. They acted on behalf of the All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) and told the high court that the online gambling petition wrongly included Adda52 and PokerStars.in.

AIGF expects to formally intervene as a party in this dispute before it is heard again on July 31.
