Colorado sports betting handle rises in August
The betting handle increased by 12.04 year-over-year.
US.- The Colorado Department of Revenue has reported that the state’s sports betting handle totalled $417.2m in August, up 18.43 per cent from July 2025 and 12.04 year-over-year. Gross gaming revenue (GGR) was $38.7m, with $38.2m from online and $447,662 from retail locations.
In terms of handle, baseball led the market with $103.1m: $102.1m from online bets and $942,578 from retail. Basketball generated $51.8m ($51.4m online and $276.717 from retail), and tennis $37.9m ($37.8m on line and $50,095 from retail). Tax revenue was $3.7m, up 36.44 per cent from July 2025.
Christopher Schroder, director of gaming, said: “The continued growth in sports betting tax revenue is great for Colorado. Coloradans can confidently place bets, knowing that their wager is a win for all Coloradans because the tax revenue generated goes towards our conservation efforts water throughout Colorado.”
Through the Colorado Water Conservation Board, annual sports betting tax revenue funds a variety of water conservation efforts including the Frozen Assets project.
The state’s sports betting wagers and taxes set new records in fiscal year 2024-25. Players wagered $6.3bn, $287m more than in the previous year and 130 per cent more than in the first full fiscal year of sports betting in Colorado, in 2020-21.
