Colorado Gov. signs new gambling regulations into law
The law signed this week clarifies “simulated gaming activity” laws and amends definitions of gambling terms.
US.- Colorado’s Lt. Gov. Donna Lynne signed a bill into law on Wednesday that clarifies the state’s regulations regarding gambling. HB-18 1234 amends the definitions of gambling terms and also clarifies “simulated gaming activity” laws.
The law that was signed this week amends the definitions of terms like simulated gambling device, prize and gambling in state laws. Simulated gambling devices are now defined to include machines that “combine the elements of chance and skill, in accordance with the Colorado constitution,” KDVR revealed.
Moreover, the law details that a simulated gambling device is against the law if someone is indirectly paid “or in a non-monetary form for use of a simulated gambling device, and that time of payment (i.e. before or after the use of the device) is irrelevant.”
The bill comes after three people were charged in April on 430 counts related to illegal gambling operations at three state gaming sites. Local police said that the devices at those centres were examples of machines that challenged Colorado’s gaming laws.
