Arizona Department of Gaming gets green light to continue plus increase in problem gambling budget

ADG has received continuation approval by the Arizona State Legislature.

US.- The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) has announced that it has received continuation approval by the Arizona State Legislature after Governor Hobbs signed off on Senate Bill 1671. The move clears the regulator to continue working for another six years following a standard periodic review.

Meanwhile, Senate Bill 1847 and the state’s Fiscal Year 2027 budget grant the department’s Division of Problem Gambling expanded expenditure authority, enabling additional investments in problem gambling prevention, education, treatment and recovery services.

The state budget grants $4m in authorised spending, a rise of 20 per cent from the 2026 budget. The legislature granted the agency an annual $500,000 expenditure authority to use Event Wagering funds to support problem gambling.

Department director Jackie Johnson said: “Arizona first established the Department of Gaming in 1995 – and more than thirty years later, we remain excited about world-class regulation benefitting the entire state. I’m grateful to Governor Hobbs and leaders in the state legislature, particularly continuation bill sponsor State Senator Shawnna Bolick, who thoroughly reviewed our agency with a deep commitment to public service, and I am pleased that the Department secured its continuation, which will allow us to strengthen our focus points in robust consumer protection and integrity.”

The ADG recently reported that $46.2m in tribal gaming contributions went to the Arizona Benefits Fund for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026. That’s a 1.9 per cent increase compared to the same quarter of fiscal year 2025.
