Choctaws unveil plans for casino in Illinois
The Oklahoman tribe Choctaw Nation has unveiled its plans for a casino in Matteson, Illinois, which would feature a 200-room hotel.
US.- The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma has partnered with Illinois city Matteson and investor Rob Miller to propose a casino. The plan includes 2,000 gaming positions, a 200-room hotel and a 36,000 square foot convention space.
Matteson is the latest city in Illinois to officially unveil its plans for a casino licence. The facility would be located at the northeast corner of Lincoln Highway and Harlem Avenue. It will compete with Lynwood and a joint proposal from Homewood and East Hazel Crest to obtain a casino licence in the state. The Illinois Gaming Board will receive proposals until the end of the month, and other cities are likely to submit more proposals.
“I believe this project will be an asset not just to Matteson, but to the entire Southland Region,” said Matteson Village President Sheila Chalmers-Currin. “After interviewing multiple casino operators, we felt the team led by the Choctaw Nation provided the best combination of experience, vision, community engagement and a financially feasible plan.”
The project would offer more than 2,000 gaming positions, a high-end restaurant along with more food options, a 200-room hotel and a 36,000 square foot convention space for concerts, banquets and other community uses.
Sheila Chalmers-Currin- Village President of Matteson, said: “There is no doubt that our proposed site is the absolute best location in the southern Cook County. It borders neighbouring Will County and offers the total convenience of motorist through its unique access to I-57 and I-80.”
