Casinos and betting shops continue to close across Europe

More countries have closed venues under renewed Covid-19 lockdown measures.

Europe.- Casinos in Europe had been leading the way in reopening following initial lockdowns due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

While venues in many Asian jurisdictions remained closed under conservative lockdown regimes and numbers in Vegas remained low, European casinos began to open in the summer, seeing a recovery in visitor numbers and spending.

But countries across the continent have rowed back and included both casinos and other gaming venues in new lockdown measures following rises in the number of Covid-19 cases.

Latvia, Lithuania and Greece have closed casinos and betting shops again, joining England, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany and Italy.

Lithuania’s government has announced a temporary lockdown until November 29. 

Greece has suspended land-based gaming under a new lockdown until November 30, affecting former OPAP stores, gaming halls and street vendors that sell Hellenic Lotteries products.

Latvia’s latest lockdown is to run until December 6.
