Alleged illegal gambling ring busted in Indiana
William Williams was accused of three felony charges related to illegal gambling activities in the state.
US.- William Williams, a 63-year-old Kouts man has been accused of working as bookie and helping to promote illegal gambling throughout the counties of Porter and LaPorte in Indiana. He faces three felony charges.
Allegedly, Williams and five other men allowed customers to gamble on the outcome of professional and college football games, using sports betting cards known as parlay. This went on from 2013 to 2015. The other five have also been charged in connection with the alleged gambling ring, including former Michigan City Councilman David Biela, who is charged with five counts of promoting professional gambling and corrupt business influence, all felonies. James Liverman, Gregory Czizek, Stanley Mazur and John Greene, all from Michigan City are facing the same charges.
According to an officer with the Indiana Gaming Commission, the cards were printed weekly in Michigan City and distributed by Williams to various locations, where they were used to establish bets on games based on odds determined by professionals in Las Vegas.
Williams, has not been arrested yet but he is charged with corrupt business influence, professional gambling and promoting professional gambling.
