BetMGM opens sports betting pre-registration in Maryland
The firm has launched pre-registration ahead of the launch of sports betting in the state.
US.- BetMGM has opened sports betting pre-registration ahead of its launch in Maryland. Sports betting apps could be allowed to launch in Maryland at the start of December.
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission has sent ten applicants for final approval from the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC), which could award the licences at its next meeting on November 21. The ten operators are Caesars Sportsbook, FanDuel, Betfred, BetMGM, DraftKings, Fanatics, Parx, Barstool Sportsbook, PointsBet, BetRivers.
If the SWARC awards the licences, the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency will make a final review. Each business must conduct a controlled demonstration, ensuring that its systems and internal control procedures are functioning correctly.
In early November, the geolocation data firm GeoComply was awarded a contractor licence by the Maryland State Lottery and Gaming Control Agency. The licence will allow the firm to supply its geolocation, ID verification, and fraud detection and prevention services to regulated operators when online sports betting launches in the state.
Maryland’s casinos set new gaming revenue record in October
Maryland’s six casinos generated $212.9m in gaming revenue in October. That’s an increase of more than 37 per cent from October 2021 and beats the previous single-month record of $180.1m set in July 2021. Revenue was up from $159.3m reported in September 2022.
According to the Maryland Lottery and Gaming, MGM National Harbor led the way with more than $115m up 105.8 per cent from October 2021. Live! Casino & Hotel at Arundel Mills generated $59.7m, down 1.9 per cent. Baltimore’s Horseshoe Casino recorded $17.4m up 1.5 per cent.
