Australia investigates tennis match fixing
Gaming authority of Victoria has begun a crackdown on tennis betting for potential match fixing operations.
Australia.- The government of Australia announced that the Victoria State’s gaming watchdog has begun an investigation of potential match fixing operations related to tennis betting services. The Victorian Commission of Gambling and Liquor Regulation is investigating recent operations of Tennis Australia after accusations of match fixing and corruption.
According to the local press, Tennis Australia has not done enough to prevent illegal gaming transactions, whilst the sports entity has allegedly not complied with the current anti-corruption protocol. The investigation will result in the determination of whether Tennis Australia could continue as a sports controlling body.
The accusations against the sports institution were made last year by former Brumby government gaming minister Tony Robinson. “As long as these betting opportunities remain intact it is inevitable that more players in minor tournaments will be approached to fix matches,” Robinson stated in his complaint.
The State of Victoria has recently reached an agreement with the ESSA Group (Sports Betting Integrity) to prevent match fixing operations related to licensed iGaming platforms. The agreement was signed between the international organisation and the Australian state Police and is aimed at revealing suspicious betting activity.
