Atlantic City expects to reopen for July 4
Atlantic City’s Mayor and the governor of New Jersey are eager to confirm the reopening date for casinos but remain cautious.
US.- Atlantic City expects to be ready to reopen its casinos for July 4 as previously announced.
Mayor Marty Small Sr. has said he agrees with Governor Phil Murphy on the reopening date.
Small said in a press conference that he hopes for Atlantic City’s nine casinos to reopen in time for Independence Day.
He said: “That’s the governor’s call. I know the goal is by Fourth of July weekend.”
The governor has been cautious about the reopening of the gaming venues during the pandemic. Murphy ordered casinos to close on March 16 in response to the outbreak of the new coronavirus and has yet to give a firm timeline on reopening.
At the end of May, Murphy said “We’re just not there yet.”
Unlike other markets, such as Las Vegas, which is already back in operation, Atlantic City will likely receive tourists from New York City, one of the biggest hotspots for coronavirus in the US.
One of Atlantic City’s competitors will open this week as Maryland allows casinos to accept wagers from June 19.
