The city´s nine casinos reported a profit of more than $310m, more than double that of the same period in 2020.
US.- Atlantic City’s nine casinos have reported that gross operating profits more than doubled in the third quarter of 2021. According to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, the casinos posted a collective gross operating profit of more than $310m for the three months ending September 30.
The figure compares to $151m in Q3 of 2020 when casinos were still operating under state-imposed capacity restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In Q3 of 2019, they generated $239.7m. Gross operating profit reflects earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and other expenses.
James Plousis, chair of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission said: “Through efficiencies, every operator posted a profit in the third quarter, a great accomplishment coming out of an extremely challenging period. Atlantic City’s recovery is gaining momentum and is on track for an impressive year.
“The properties are to be commended for how they handled this challenge, both for their customers and employees, and are now rebounding from it.”
