Macau per-capita non-gaming spend drops in Q2

Overnight visitors and same-day visitors’ per capita spending fell by 2.1 per cent and 19.3 per cent respectively.

Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has reported that non-gaming spending among visitors rose by 4.6 per cent year-on-year to MOP18.25bn (US$2.2bn) in the second quarter of 2025. Overnight visitors spent MOP14.64bn (US$1.8bn) and same-day visitors MOP3.61bn (US$447m), up by 4.4 per cent and 5.5 per cent respectively.

However, per-capita non-gaming spending dropped by 12.3 per cent year-on-year to MOP1,950 (US$242). The figure for overnight visitors was MOP3,663 (US$454) and same-day visitors MOP673 (US$63), down by 2.1 per cent and 19.3 per cent respectively. 

Visitors spent mainly on shopping (41.5 per cent), followed by accommodation (24.9 per cent) and food & beverages (22.5 per cent). The share of visitors’ spending on food & beverages was up whereas the share on shopping saw a decrease.

Per-capita non-gaming spending of visitors from the Chinese mainland (MOP2,203), the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong SAR; MOP1,000) and the Taiwan region (MOP2,031) decreased by 15 per cent, 9.1 per cent and 5.1 per cent year-on-year, respectively. Per-capita spending of international visitors (MOP2,134) was down by 10.2 per cent year-on-year. 

The per-capita non-gaming spending of visitors from the Republic of Korea (MOP2,728) fell by 1.5 per cent year-on-year, whereas spending of those from Japan (MOP2,274) rose by 18.5 per cent. For Southeast Asian markets, spending of visitors from Thailand (MOP2,455) dropped by 8.8 per cent year-on-year, while spending of those from Singapore (MOP3,201) and Malaysia (MOP1,799) registered increases of 22 per cent and 6.1 per cent, respectively. 

In the first half of 2025, non-gaming spending was up by 0.2 per cent year-on-year to MOP37.86bn (US$4.73m), with that of same-day visitors (MOP7.85bn) rising by 7 per cent while that of overnight visitors (MOP30.01bn) falling by 1.4 per cent. The per-capita non-gaming spend (MOP1,970) dropped by 12.8 per cent year-on-year. 

In July, DSEC reported that there were 19,218,540 visitor arrivals to Macau in the first half of 2025, up by 14.9 per cent year-on-year. Same-day visitors (11,182,913) and overnight visitors (8,035,627) rose by 25.8 per cent and 2.6 per cent, respectively. 

The cumulative average length of stay of visitors decreased by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.1 days, due to the growth in the proportion of same-day visitors. The average durations for same-day visitors (0.2 day) and overnight visitors (2.3 days) both remained unchanged year-on-year.
