Star Sydney could regain casino licence by end of September

The NSW Independent Casino Commission is working on a framework that could include new conditions and continued regulatory monitoring.

Australia.- Star Sydney could regain control of its suspended casino licence by the end of September under a new conditional arrangement with the NSW Independent Casino Commission (NICC). NICC Chief Commissioner Philip Crawford said the regulator is working with The Star on a framework that would allow the licence to return to the company, subject to additional conditions and regulatory directions.

The arrangement would replace the current government-appointed manager, Nick Weeks, whose term is due to end this month. Crawford said Weeks is likely to remain involved as a monitor but would no longer manage the casino.

The Star Sydney licence has been suspended since October 2022, after the first Bell inquiry found the operator unsuitable to hold a casino licence.
