Macau residents to be evacuated from Wuhan
Government to dispatch a special evacuation flight to return Macau residents stranded in Wuhan.
Macau.- The Macau SAR government this weekend took the decision to dispatch special charter flights to to evacuate Macau residents stuck in Hubei province due to the on-going Coronavirus crisis.
According to Inside Asian Gaming, around 150 residents are said to be stranded in Wuhan and other cities in Hubei province after a blockade came into force on 23 February as part of efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19.
The government will send a Macau Airlines charter to Wuhan on Saturday and to bring back 50 residents to the city.
“The infection rate in Wuhan is between 1% and 10%, so the worst situation is about 14 people among them would be infected after they return to Macau. This is a risk that our entire society has to bear,” Director of Macau’s Health Bureau, Lei Chin Ion, said.
All officials and residents will be required to wear protective clothing during the evacuation. On returning to Macau, residents will be sent to Ka Ho for a 14-day medical quarantine.
