Macau.- Some 415,000 visitors were recorded in Macau during mainland China’s Mid-Autumn Festival holiday from September 25 to 27. That’s a 19.5 per cent increase compared with the same period last year, according to figures from the Public Security Police.
The results exceeded expectations from the tourism sector and come just days before China’s National Day Golden Week, which runs from October 1 to 7. Visitor arrivals averaged around 138,000 per day during the three-day break, peaking at approximately 171,000 on September 26. Across Macau’s border checkpoints, total entries and exits reached 2.1 million, up 7.3 per cent year-on-year.
Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) director Helena de Senna Fernandes said the authority is targeting an average of 150,000 daily visitor arrivals during Golden Week. Hotel occupancy is expected to exceed 90 per cent. Some properties could approach full occupancy during the peak period from October 1 to 5.
In the first eight months of 2026, visitor arrivals in Macau were up by 7.7 per cent year-on-year to 28,964,737, according to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). Same-day visitors (17,850,599) grew by 13.6 per cent while overnight visitors (11,114,138) dropped by 0.6 per cent.
