Macau visitor arrivals up 6.1% in August
Visitor arrivals reached 4.4 million in August, according to the Statistics and Census Service.
Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has confirmed that the number of visitor arrivals increased by 6.1 per cent year-on-year to 4,478,073 in August 2026. Same-day visitors (2,853,011) rose by 11.7 per cent year-on-year while overnight visitors (1,625,062) decreased by 2.4 per cent.
The average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.0 day, with that of overnight visitors (2.3 days) remaining unchanged.
The DSEC said visitors from the Chinese mainland increased by 9.3 per cent year-on-year to 3,561,667 in August, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme (2,019,744) rising by 12.7 per cent. Visitors from the Taiwan region (101,282) rose by 13.7 per cent year-on-year, while those from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (643,445) dropped by 5.6 per cent.
International visitors totalled 171,679 in August, down by 9.8 per cent year-on-year. Visitors from the Philippines (31,282) and Indonesia (11,106) fell by 18.5 per cent and 16.9 per cent respectively, while those from Malaysia (8,161) rose by 2.1 per cent. Visitors from India (6,430) dropped by 17.6 per cent year-on-year. Visitors from the Republic of Korea (30,738) and Japan (11,464) decreased by 12.6 per cent and 31.1 per cent, respectively. Visitors from the USA (11,713) were down by 0.4 per cent year-on-year.
In the first eight months of 2026, the number of visitor arrivals rose by 7.7 per cent year-on-year to 28,964,737. Same-day visitors (17,850,599) grew by 13.6 per cent while overnight visitors (11,114,138) dropped by 0.6 per cent. The number of international visitors totalled 1,768,596, up by 3.4 per cent year-on-year.
The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) reported that Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) was MOP21.89bn (US$2.71bn) in August, down 1.2 per cent in year-on-year terms, but up 8.1 per cent compared to July’s MOP20.26bn. Cumulatively, Macau’s GGR for the first eight months of 2026 was MOP169.05bn (US$20.95bn), up 3.7 per cent year-on-year.
