Macau set for visitor influx during Mid-Autumn Festival
The holiday period will take place from September 25 to 27, followed by the National Day Golden Week from October 1 to 7.
Macau.- Andy Wu, president of the Macau Travel Industry Council, expects to see a daily influx of 120,000 visitors during this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival and October Golden Week, the extended holiday surrounding China’s National Day. The breaks run together, will the first falling on September 25 to 27, followed by the National Day Golden Week from October 1 to 7.
Speaking to the local media, Wu said: “Since the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday falls from Friday to Sunday in mainland China, many residents there may opt to stay home with their families on the festival day itself. Because of this, visitation to Macau is not expected to surge on the first day of the holiday, but visitor traffic is likely to gradually pick up over the final two days.”
Macau Daily Times reported that, according to the Travel Industry Council of Macau, the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday forecast would put visitor numbers about 20 per cent above the average of roughly 100,000 recorded per day so far this month. Tourism operators forecast average hotel occupancy rates of around 90 per cent during the three-day holiday.
In the first eight months of 2026, visitor arrivals in Macau were up by 7.7 per cent year-on-year to 28,964,737, according to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). Same-day visitors (17,850,599) grew by 13.6 per cent while overnight visitors (11,114,138) dropped by 0.6 per cent. The number of international visitors totalled 1,768,596, up by 3.4 per cent year-on-year.
