Macau occupancy rate down 10.8 percentage points in January
The Macau Statistics and Census Bureau has reported that the city’s average hotel occupancy rate declined 10.8 percentage points month-on-month to 44 per cent.
Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has reported that the average hotel occupancy rate in Macau reached 44 per cent in January. That’s a drop of 10.8 percentage points from December, but was 3.7 points higher than January 2021. The number of overnight visitors dropped 38.1 per cent.
The DSEC reported that the number of hotel guests increased by 14.2 per cent year-on-year to 515,000, with 418,000 from mainland China.
Mainland China continues to be the only country to have a largely quarantine-free travel bubble with Macau. Those crossing the land border from China must present a Covid-19 test taken no more than 48 hours prior. For air arrival, the test must be 7-days prior.
The average room occupancy rate in 2021 was 50 per cent, an increase of 21.4 points from 2020. The DSEC has reported that Macau registered 7.71m visitor arrivals in 2021, up 30.7 per cent year-on-year but down 80.0 per cent when compared to pre-pandemic levels.
