Macau GGR hits 2026 low in September
September revenue fell 17.5 per cent from August, while year-to-date GGR remains above 2025 levels.

Macau.- The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has reported that Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) was MOP18.06bn (US$2.23bn) in September. That’s a decrease of 1.2 per cent in year-on-year terms and 17.5 per cent below August’s US$2.71bn.
September saw the fourth consecutive month of year-on-year GGR decline and the lowest monthly figure this year. Cumulatively, Macau’s GGR for the first nine months of 2026 was MOP181.341bn (US$20.95bn), up 3.7 per cent year-on-year but 15.1 per cent below the MOP220.297bn (US$27.30bn) recorded in the corresponding period of 2019.
For October, Macau expects between 5.2 million and 5.4 million border crossings during mainland China’s National Day Golden Week holiday from October 1 to 7. Authorities forecast an average of 740,000 to 770,000 per day. The busiest days are expected to be October 3 and 4, when the Public Security Police Force (PSP) expects that crossings could exceed 800,000.
Earlier this week, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said it expects VIP gaming in Macau to continue to represent a relatively small share of casino gross gaming revenue over the medium term. Its 2026 Article IV consultation for Macao SAR notes that despite some signs of recovery, VIP gaming is likely to remain subdued due to tighter rules for junket operators introduced via Macau’s reforms in 2022.
