India’s Supreme Court requests nationwide responses on call to ban betting apps

The court has issued notices to state governments, regulators and companies in response to a public interest litigation.

India.- The Supreme Court of India has issued notices to state governments, national regulators and tech giants in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) that seeks a ban on betting apps. The petition calls for strict regulation of online gaming and fantasy sports under a unified legal framework.

The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Enforcement Directorate (ED), and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). It also requested responses from Google and Apple and gaming platforms Dream11, MPL, and A23 Games, according to Nagalang Post. The matter is scheduled for hearing on August 18.
