The figure was cited by the Minister of State for Electronics & IT.

India.- In a response to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament, Jitin Prasada, minister of State for Electronics & IT, has said that the Indian government issued 1,524 blocking directions related to online betting, gambling and gaming websites and mobile applications between 2022 and June 2025.

Prsada noted that the Directorate General of GST Intelligence Headquarters is empowered under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the IGST Act to direct intermediaries to block such platforms. The minister added that the suppliers of online money gaming are also being monitored.

India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned senior executives from tech giants Google and Meta to appear for questioning on July 21 as part of a major investigation into illegal online betting and money laundering. The probe has already implicated celebrities, influencers and political figures.

Authorities allege that the companies sold betting apps premium advertising slots, allowing them to reach a wide audience and generate illicit revenue. The ED is seeking detailed explanations from the companies regarding their ad approval policies and whether sufficient due diligence was applied.
