Genting Hong Kong will ensure officers and crew are vaccinated before resuming sailings in Hong Kong from July 30.

Hong Kong.- Casino cruise ship operator Genting Hong Kong Limited has confirmed that it will resume operations from July 30.

Prior to resuming operations, all of its cruise staff will get vaccinated against Covid-19 as required by the Hong Kong government.

Passengers will also need to be fully vaccinated before sailing. As it was previously reported, Genting Hong Kong will only operate at 50 per cent of its capacity. The company said trips will not involve ports outside Hong Kong.

One Genting cruise, the World Dream liner, had to return to Singapore after a passenger tested positive for Covid-19.

According to Reuters, nearly 3,000 passengers and crew were confined to their cabins while the infected passenger was taken to hospital once the ship docked.

The company said full cleaning was carried out at the cruise. The next sailing was cancelled.

The capacity of World Dream was reduced from 50 per cent to 25 per cent in May 2021 but returned to 50 per cent on June 14.

In May, the company reported that it had reached a recapitalisation proposal with stakeholders to access a new US$261.5m loan, which includes a small stake in the company, to finish construction of its Crystal Endeavor and Global Dream vessels.
