China to continue crackdown on cross-border gambling in 2022
The authorities in China are working on more operations against cross-border gambling activities.
China.- The Ministry of Public Security has said that it will continue its efforts to crack down on cross-border gambling this year. Through a statement, the ministry recalled the action it had taken in 2021 and said it would continue the policy this year.
As part of the strategy, China has said it will “blacklist overseas institutions and individuals that support gambling groups” and suppress channels for gambling capital transfers.
The press release from China’s Ministry of Public Security was shared after a meeting of leading officials and Chinese state councillors. The gathering was said to have focused on an action plan for 2022 on cross-border gambling either involving or aimed at, mainland residents.
China plans to work with international law enforcement bodies and push for “joint crackdown” action with other countries so that cross-border gambling groups that targeted mainland Chinese nationals could receive “severe punishment”.
They added that public awareness concerning the fight against gambling should be increased and said that China’s blacklist system will be updated to target certain jurisdictions that solicited mainland Chinese gamblers. Money-transfer routes including cryptocurrency will be scrutinised as will individuals owning “multiple bank cards”, the release said.
