Scientific Games has seen a record number of bets for Royal Ascot through its OpenSports platform.

UK.- American operator Scientific Games reported a record-breaking number of transactions on its OpenSports platform on the first day of Royal Ascot despite this year’s race meeting taking place behind closed doors.

The B2B betting technology provider said it had seen a 44 per cent increase in the volume of bets placed on the first day of the event compared to last year. It also saw an 18 per cent increase in stakes wagered.

Keith O’Loughlin, Senior Vice President of Sportsbook and Digital at Scientific Games, said: “Royal Ascot has always been an important fixture in the sporting calendar, but this year’s meeting has held even more significance given the current climate.

“Our figures show that there’s pent-up demand from bettors for unmissable sports events such as Royal Ascot.

“I’m delighted to report that OpenSports™ has delivered scale and stability for our customers following this increase in wagering activity.”

Operators have sought new ways to mark Royal Ascot this year due to ongoing lockdown restrictions in the UK, with races being held at the Ascot racecourse without public.

The UK Tote Group made its Tote Superpools markets available for all 36 races, while private bookmaker Fitzdares did things differently with the launch of its “Upgrade Your Bookmaker” advertising campaign aimed at the top end of the market.
