Arizona sports betting handle decreases in December

US.- The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) has released sports betting figures for December. The handle totalled $822m, down 3 per cent year-over-year. The state collected $6.6m in privilege fees.

Since the launch of legal sports betting in Arizona, wagered have totalled more than $31bn, generating over $165m in event wagering privilege fees for the state. For fiscal year 2026 year-to-date, regulated event wagering and fantasy sports have generated approximately $33m in privilege fees: $32.3m from event wagering and $774,167 from fantasy sports.

Jackie Johnson, department director, said: “Today’s report closes out the 2025 calendar year for Arizona sports betting figures, with the year exceeding nine billion dollars in event wagering activity. Additionally, legal, regulated event wagering allowed the state of Arizona to collect more than $53m in privilege fees for the calendar year.”

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs’ executive budget proposal includes a move to increase the state’s sports betting tax rate to 45 per cent for the largest operators. All sportsbooks have paid 10 per cent since the market opened in 2021, but the proposal would create of a tiered fee structure.

For operators that report under $75m in average monthly revenue, the tax rate would remain at 10 per cent for online operations and 8 per cent for retail. For revenue over $75m, the rate would rise to 45 per cent. The increase would not affect Tribal operators.
