Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has appointed Alec Esteban Thomson to the role from April 17.

US.- Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has named Alec Esteban Thomson as the new director of the Arizona Lottery. Thomson will start in the role on April 17.

Thompson joins the Arizona Lottery from the marketing agency Lavidge, where he worked as director of multicultural and public services. He has served as an Arizona Lottery Commission member for over a year and has more than a decade of experience in public service and advocacy at the city, state, and federal levels.

He has led statewide campaigns, spearheaded community and economic development initiatives and drove policy efforts in Phoenix and Tempe. He served on the staff of Republican governor Doug Ducey as director of strategic initiatives.

Governor Hobbs said: “Alec Esteban Thomson is a proven leader in business and public service, and his background makes him uniquely qualified to lead the Arizona Lottery. Alec brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge and I look forward to seeing him lead this department.”

Thomson commented: “I’m thrilled to be the next Executive Director of the Arizona Lottery and am excited to maximize the impact of the Lottery for Arizona communities. Arizona sports betting handle reaches $591m in January

Arizona’s sports betting handle was $591m in January, according to the Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG). That’s up 3 per cent compared to December 2022’s $572.5m. Event wagering privilege fees totalled over $2.8m, resulting in over $37m in privilege fees collected by the state since the start of legal operations.

Fantasy sports generated a new record of $8.8m in collected in-state entry fees and over $80 thousand in privilege fees collected by the state.
