In order to reduce the coronavirus’ impact, African gambling is starting to shut down as Kenya ordered betting shops to close their doors.

Kenya.- Kenya has begun the African gambling shut down as coronavirus spreads in the continent. The government ordered betting shops and casinos to close their doors to reduce the pandemic’s impact.

“Coronavirus has continued to affect the world in an unprecedented way,” said BCLB director Peter Mbugi in a memo to betting operators. The authorities base their decision on a statement by the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Health on March 22.

“In view of these developments, you are hereby directed to close down all casinos and betting shops with effect from the date of this circular until further notice,” the BCLB ordered.

Through this measure, African gambling starts to shut down as the industry has already done all around the globe. Kenya has taken a major step that’s ugly but probably necessary to preserve people’s health.

“As responsible citizens, you are also required to keep yourselves abreast of and compliant with the government directives that will be issued periodically,” he said.

The pandemic continues to hurt the world’s economy and the African gambling industry won’t be the exception. However, the land-based segment’s struggle may push iGaming, but we’ll have to wait and see.
