Zambia’s betting sector urged to strengthen compliance through ZRA tax classes

Gambling operators can now streamline tax filing and improve compliance by participating in Zambia Revenue Authority’s practical tax education sessions.

Zambia.- Zambia’s gambling and betting companies are being encouraged to take part in tax education classes offered by the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) to strengthen understanding of tax compliance, return filing and payments.

The ZRA’s tax education initiative is an ongoing programme aimed at helping taxpayers and the general public better understand how to register for tax, file returns and make payments through official systems. “The Zambia Revenue Authority wishes to invite taxpayers and the general public to attend tax classes on Tax Registration, Return filing and Payments,” said the ZRA. To participate, interested betting companies are invited to register using the forms provided on the ZRA website.

In September 2025, Zambia introduced a 10 per cent tax on all betting stakes, affecting all gambling operators. By attending ZRA tax education classes, operators can learn how to calculate, file and pay this tax correctly, using the official online systems and reducing the risk of penalties or compliance issues.

For gambling and betting operators, attending these sessions also provides practical knowledge of Zambia’s tax processes, particularly the electronic platforms used for filing and payments. The classes help companies navigate core tax obligations efficiently, supporting legal operations and reducing errors.

In addition to the tax classes, ZRA runs broader tax education workshops and sensitisation activities across the country covering topics such as tax compliance, smart invoice systems and electronic payment procedures. These sessions are open to entrepreneurs, local businesses and other stakeholders, further reinforcing the Authority’s commitment to fostering voluntary compliance.

The ZRA advises taxpayers and businesses to regularly check the registration page and complete the online form to secure a place in upcoming sessions. For the gambling sector, where turnover tax and company tax filings are part of regular compliance, engaging with ZRA’s training opportunities can make the often complex process of understanding and filing returns more manageable, supporting both compliance and long-term business growth.
