Uganda.-Uganda’s National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) is calling on government agencies to strengthen cross-sector collaboration to protect players and promote responsible gaming. At the recent 4th Heads of Government Agencies (HOGA) meeting, NLGRB CEO Denis Mudene highlighted the importance of joint efforts across all sectors to address gaming-related risks.

Mudene said: “While gaming is a regulated activity, irresponsible gaming poses both social and economic risks that demand collective action to mitigate. We need to strengthen partnerships in sensitisation and awareness creation to address the harms associated with gaming, including underage participation.”

Heads of Government Agencies present expressed their commitment to supporting the Board’s efforts by sensitising their staff on gaming-related issues and sharing strategies aimed at protecting the public from potential gaming harms.

Collaboration key to safe and responsible gaming

The HOGA meeting, hosted by the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) in Kampala, highlighted how public service institutions are coming together to address national priorities and foster collaboration across agencies.

Silver Mugisha, Managing Director of NWSC, underscored the importance of developing local solutions to enhance service delivery and reduce reliance on imported systems. “We must grow our own capacity to deliver sustainable service,” he said, calling for innovation and accountability across agencies.

Jane Mwesiga, Deputy Head of Public Service in the Office of the Prime Minister and Chairperson of HOGA, reiterated that the quarterly meetings serve as a platform for benchmarking, knowledge sharing and fostering unity within the public service. She urged agencies to focus on outcomes rather than outputs and to work collaboratively towards transformative public service delivery.
