Tunisia counts down to Global Game Jam 2026, leading Africa’s gaming revolution

Jam poised to highlight African talent and position Tunisia as a hub for game development and esports.

Tunisia.- Tunisia is counting down the days to host the Global Game Jam 2026 (GGJ 2026), taking centre stage in Africa’s gaming revolution. Developers, designers and digital artists from across Africa and beyond are gearing up to converge from January 30 to February 1 to create innovative games, learn from industry leaders and showcase the continent’s growing talent to the world.

The jam is set to take place at Elgazala Technopark and Cité de la Culture in Tunis and will include workshops, practical sessions, discussions and game demonstrations intended to help participants acquire new skills and develop their projects.

GGJ 2026 organisers said: “This annual event is THE place to be for developers, artists, designers or anyone passionate about games – don’t miss your chance to create, learn and connect. After the success of the 2025 edition, we’re back with new contents and many surprises in store.”

Platform for creative collaboration

GGJ 2026 is one of the world’s largest collaborative game development events, where participants form small teams to produce games over an intensive 48‑hour period. The jam is held annually across hundreds of local sites worldwide, making it a significant platform for creative collaboration and skill development.

Tunisia’s participation this year highlights the country’s growing role in nurturing digital creative skills and supporting local developers. Elgazala Technopark, one of the event venues, is an established hub for tech innovation and startup activity, making it a fitting site for this edition.

The Tunisian Esports Federation has also been expanding its competitive gaming environment, recently welcoming new clubs into its national system – an indication of the country’s broader engagement with interactive entertainment and gaming communities.

These developments reflect a trend in which game development and competitive gaming are becoming increasingly visible components of Tunisia’s tech and youth culture and contribute to the broader African gaming landscape.

GGJ 2026 represents more than a weekend of game creation. It underscores a shift: Africa is not only consuming games but creating them, shaping stories and building a future in digital entertainment, with Tunisia playing a leading role in connecting African talent to the global arena.
